DTN/Services/QA & Test Automation

E-commerce QA and test automation, run as QA outsourcing.

QA outsourcing built for e-commerce, not for generic software. A dedicated QA squad that owns your checkout regression suite, your release gate and your performance budgets on Magento, Shopify Plus and Medusa.

Already have QA in-house? We often run alongside an internal team — they own product quality, we own the automation suite and the release gate.

Packages

Three ways to engage.

Embedded
One QA engineer
Monthly · per role

A single QA engineer embedded in your team — test plans, manual regression and a growing automation suite. Best for one store, one market.

Squad
QA lead + 2 engineers
Monthly · per role

A QA lead owning strategy and two engineers on execution. Release gating in CI, cross-browser matrix, performance budgets. Best for multi-market or weekly releases.

Project
Regression suite build
6–10 weeks · fixed

A one-off engagement that builds and hands over the automation suite for your revenue-critical paths, wired into your CI. Your team runs it afterwards.

What we deliver

Six things a QA engagement owns.

/ 01

Checkout regression suite

Automated coverage of the paths that carry the revenue — cart, shipping, tax, payment, order confirmation — across every market and payment method you sell in.

/ 02

Release gating in CI

The suite runs on every pull request and every deploy, in your pipeline. A red gate blocks the release; a green one is evidence, not a feeling.

/ 03

Cross-browser & device matrix

A defined matrix based on your actual analytics, not a generic list — including the old Android and Safari versions your buyers really use.

/ 04

Integration & contract testing

ERP, PIM, OMS, payment and tax integrations tested for the failure modes that cost money: timeouts, partial writes, duplicate webhooks, stale inventory.

/ 05

Performance testing

Core Web Vitals budgets enforced in CI with Lighthouse CI, plus k6 load tests sized to your peak — Black Friday traffic modelled before Black Friday.

/ 06

Test strategy & handover

A written strategy, a maintained test-case library and documentation your own team can pick up. No suite that only we can run.

How we work

Four phases, then a standing cadence.

— 01

Audit

Two weeks: current coverage, defect history, release process, analytics-driven browser matrix. Output is a ranked risk list and a test strategy.

— 02

Cover the money paths

Automate cart, checkout, payment, account and search first. You have a usable release gate at the end of the first sprint.

— 03

Widen and wire in

Integrations, admin workflows, multi-market and multi-currency cases. The suite moves into your CI as a required check.

— 04

Run and prune

Every release gated, flaky tests fixed rather than retried, and dead tests deleted. A suite nobody trusts is worse than no suite.

Questions

The ones clients ask us first.

What does QA outsourcing cover for an e-commerce store?

A named QA squad that owns your test strategy end to end: the checkout regression suite, the release gate before every deploy, cross-browser and device coverage, payment and tax edge cases, and performance testing against your Core Web Vitals budgets. Not a pool of hours you file tickets into.

Can we hire a QA engineer rather than a whole squad?

Yes. A single embedded QA engineer at a monthly rate is the most common starting point — they join your standups, work in your tracker and build the automation suite alongside your developers. Scale to a lead plus two engineers when release cadence or market count grows.

Manual or automated testing?

Both, deliberately split. Automation owns the paths that must never break and get re-run on every deploy — add to cart, checkout, payment, account, search. Manual exploratory testing owns everything that is new, visual or judgement-based. Automating exploratory work is how teams end up with a slow suite that catches nothing.

How long until the regression suite pays off?

The first sprint covers the revenue-critical paths, so you get a usable release gate in about two weeks. Full coverage of a mature Magento or Shopify Plus store typically takes six to ten weeks depending on catalog complexity, market count and integration surface.

Do you test integrations, and not just the storefront?

Yes — ERP, PIM, OMS, payment and tax integrations are where the expensive defects live. We build contract and end-to-end tests against your staging integrations, and we test the failure modes: timeouts, partial writes, duplicate webhooks, stale inventory.

Which tools do you use for test automation?

Playwright for browser end-to-end, Cypress where a team already owns it, k6 for load, Lighthouse CI for performance budgets, and PHPUnit or Jest at the unit level. The suite runs in your CI — GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Bitbucket Pipelines — so the release gate lives with your code, not with us.
